An explanation of the BISA logo

The Red Cross

Refers to the blood shed on the cross of Christ and the atoning significance of it. Colossians 1:20: “to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.” (ESV)

The Shield

Refers to the shield of faith in Ephesians 6:10-18, in particular vs 16: “In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.” (ESV)

The Open Book

Symbolic of the Holy Scriptures upheld at BISA: Signifies God’s Word is open and available.

Symbol inside Cross

The interposition of two Ancient Greek letter-symbols (Chi Rho) forms the first two capital letters of ‘Christos’. This is an early church christogram representing Christ. An oil lamp bearing a flame is carried on the symbol. The stem and arm of the letterform point to the four corners of the earth.

Blue colour around shield & book

Represents the College’s location, by the sea, in Kalk Bay, Cape Town. Figuratively, this also represents the access that BISA has to other parts of the world, not just Africa.
