Information for Foreign students applying to study at BISA

English Proficiency

A student who is resident in a country where English is not an official language, will be required to pass the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and achieve a minimum score of 500.

For details go to the TOEFL Centre website. If you are not sure, contact the SA Embassy closest to you.

Study Permit

A non-SA student residing outside of South Africa must apply for a study visa from the South African Embassy or Consulate in their home country before travelling to South Africa. The permit must state that studies will be done at the Bible Institute of South Africa.

When applying for the permit a student will be asked to submit a general certificate of health as well as proof that they have sufficient funds to cover health costs in South Africa – the South African Consulate will supply full details on application.

Verification of Study Funds

International students are not permitted by law to engage in paid employment while studying in the country.

Therefore, before an application to study at BISA is approved and before BISA can issue an acceptance letter for securing the student visa, the prospective student must produce verification of funds to cover a minimum of one academic year (tuition, residence and living expenses)
